    Default Sporadic Extended Cranking

    Hi All

I purchased a new 200 Limited 3.6L V6 6 weeks ago and since brand new I noticed a sporadic starting problem. Usually the car would start fine but at least once a day it would crank, try to start and then finally start after 6-7 sec of cranking. I took it back to the dealer and left it for the day but they said they could not replicate the problem and wasn't throwing any codes so not sure what it could be.
Took it back a few days later again complaining about starting issue and they got in touch with Chrysler engineers after running diagnostics on the engine. In the mean time I did some research on my own and found a TSB on a jeep site that described my situation almost exactly although it was for 2014 3.6L equipped vehicles. Brought it to attention of service advisers and they said does not apply to my vehicle.
Problem persisted so I elevated the situation and talked to shop foreman who read the TSB, brought my car in checked and changed the camshaft position sensor and viola starts like a dream all the time every time.
Just wanted to share my experience.
Here is a link explaining the TSB

Very well documented on other threads here. They took more than 3 months to fix mine. It took so long that I took the hit and changed it.

HEH, I started reading through carby's posting and was thinking he must have gotten Fernboy's original car!

Travman, when I saw that he was in Canada, I thought exactly the same :-). Reading his post though I'm surprised that the Chrysler hotline didn't point the dealer in the right direction as my case was supposedly well documented at Chrysler after all the calls that I made and given that an engineer from Detroit came to Québec to try and fix my first 200. Glad to hear I'm not the only one that experienced that very same issue though. I would be curious to know his built date.

I was at the dealer last week and couldn't spot my "old" 200 on the lot so I guess it was sold...again. That would mean 3rd owner in less than a year...So glad I took the hit and got rid of it.

Since my dealership says they cannot replace the crank sensor without a code, they replaced my fuel pump. They said they were able to read duplicate it and that my fuel pump was draining back after it was shut off. The crank sensor is like $19, how hard is it to replace?

I picked my car up yesterday for the second time. They had a line on the RO for a PCM update that just came out a few days ago. They said it directly addresses the extended crank issue. So we shall see.

My car was doing the exact same thing, so was the fuel pump. They even replaced it 3 times...Good luck, hope they fix it through the update you are talking about in the other post you made but mine NEVER threw a code and it ended up being the crank sensor position one.
