Default 2011 Headlight problems (Sylvania 9012)

Anyone else have trouble with the Sylvania Basic 9012 bulb not fitting? At first I thought it was me, but after a little measuring, the rectangle metal collar at the base of the bulb it too big. Everything I've read says it should fit, but it doesn't on our car.

Did you buy your car new? If not, someone could have altered the headlight assembly so another kind of bulb would fit.

What is the part number and brand stamped on the old bulb?
"Black Knight" was my father's trucker CB handle.

We bought it used, but I believe it is all original. As it turns out, the "basic" bulb from Sylvania is their only one with the rectangle base...the rest have the round metal collar, and they work.

I'm surprised that I didn't see any other comments like this one the interweb.

I saw this too late - paid $30 at Advance Auto for the Sylvania 9012 basic bulb, and it has a plastic collar, not metal, with a rectangular element base. The old one was an Osram 9012, and it has a metal collar and roundelement base. The Sylvania WOULD not go in, would not insert far enough to engage the socket tabs for rotation. I tried the original Osram again and it installed easily. Then I dropped the new bulb inside the wheelwell and can't find it. So I'm out 3 1/2 hours of cursing, scraped hands and $30 for a bulb that's useless. Can't find Osram anywhere, but Philips pictures look identical to it.
I don't want the other Sylvanias because they are only rated for 120 hours of life, the basic is 400 hours. No one should go through what I did tonight, that often.
