Does the check engine light still come on for loose gas caps? Had it come on just after I left for work, luckily I was only a few blocks from home , so I ran back and took the Jeep instead. Tjhe car drove fine and that's why I'm asking about the car, but didn't want to risk anything on a car with 4100 miles on it.

It could.. but if you have an EVIC it'll show there. Go to your car.. do this sequence DON'T START CAR....TURN KEY TO ON OFF ON OFF ON (ENDING IN ON) and look in your odometer. You'll get ------- followed by a P### code. Post what you get.

Looks like it's one of the exhaust cam adjusters and has advanced the timing on it's cam. I got an appointment for Thursday to take it in and have that replaced.

Did it twice like you said (the Turbo K-Cars I had were the same way, only you counted blinking lights) without luck, so I started it and went to the dealer. Cycling it off and on like that will give.you that fuel rich smell when started and that gets worse when done twice in a row..........add E-85 to the mix and it smells like the breath of somebody that crawled out of a bottle of whiskey :D

Well, the problem seemed to have corrected itself by the time I got it to work on the day between getting it scanned and when I was to take it in to have it taken care of. They re-flashed the computer and took it out for a 20 mile test drive and not codes showed up then or since I picked it up from them. I did have to reprogram the drive by wire after getting it back though, forgot how big of a difference that has made!

Not even a year old and I just got that message this morning. The error codes that I'm getting are P054A and P054C. Any idea what those are?

Not off hand, check with your dealership and see if they can pull the codes. Think I spent all of around 30minutes a the dealer.

What engine do you have?
Are you getting any knocking on start up?
If its the 3.6 It could be as simple as a pcm flash or it could be cam phasers if you are getting knocking at start up.
Just take it to the dealer. Should be under warranty.

Yes, it is a 3.6. I went to the dealer and they did the pcm flash. I guess it is a known issue.

Thank you

@ppal1981, I got the codes from turning the key off on off on off on (fast...if you do it slow it does not work).

It's how the throttles on our cars are now operated, instead of a cable running from the gas pedal to the throttle body, thete is a motor on the TB and a potentiometer on the gas pedal, kinda likethe way the yhrottle and steering is controlled on a fuel powered rc plane or car/truck.

In that situation, I drove the car fornthe couple days between the time the light came on and the appointment and it ended up going off the day after that happened. The dealer checked it out anyway and test drove it (used about 1/4 tank of E85 too), couldn't get the issue to pop back up, and in all honesty, it still hasn't nearly 4 years later. I have had it when running E85 in cold weather now that the factory battery is starting to give up the ghost.
