Hello, I have a 2015 200 Limited and want to perform the HID conversion upgrade, however came across a small problem. It appears my driver side socket is a 9005, and I am assuming it is an aftermarket socket due to a previous accident before I purchased the car. However, the conversion kits all come in pairs of the same bulb socket size. So I have two options: 1. replace the aftermarket 9005 socket with a 9012 socket and purchase the 9012 pair or 2. keep the 9005 socket, spend double the money and purchase a 9005 pair and 9012 pair and keep the others as backups. I was planning to purchase them here:

What do you guys think the most logical approach to this is. And will there be any fitting issues with the 9005 or 9012 if anyone is aware? Please let me know your opinions.

Is that side's headlamp housing keyed for a 9005 lamp or is it OEM?

Honestly, I don't know. I purchased a 9005 halogen headlight a few months back because the bulb died and plugged it in and it twisted into place. This is for the driver side (the side I assumed was aftermarket).

Are the housings for the 9012 and 9005 different?

To tell you the truth, I am not even sure if it is aftermarket, I just assumed because I thought all 2015 200s were 9012. I couldn't check the other side because I had lots of trouble trying to remove the tight socket cap (idk why), but I'll check tomorrow and update if it is the same or not. If it is the same, then I will go ahead with my purchase obviosuly.

Ok, I checked both sides of my car and here it turns out my driver side has a 9005 bulb and my passenger has the stock 9012 bulb used on 2015 200s. So I am aware this car has been in an accident or two in the past on the driver’s side before I owned it, so maybe the repair person used a 2016 headlight replacement for the car, as it may have been the cheapest option and I’m assuming the driver side housing has to be keyed for a 9005 bulb, right?

So I guess I’ll just have to buy two sets of xenon conversion kits. And I chose to go with xenon because I read it’s better with projector headlights. Is that true you think?

SOLVED:

so what I ended up doing was buying two sets of HID bulbs from eBay (one set for each side), and to my surprise the bulbs did not work. They would stay on for almost 5 mins then just turn off. Either that or if you rapidly flicker through your high beams and low beams, the bulbs also shut off. I would have to turn the lights off then back on for the bulbs to turn on. This is due to the amount of power the HID bulbs need to draw to stay on.

I decided to return the HIDs and went with LED bulbs from Amazon. Also the wiring with the HIDs was so much extra work too, as these bulbs were literally plug n play. No extra wires needed, no fitting issues, just plug n play. If you're deciding on LEDs or HIDs, just go with the LEDs. They output bright light as good as the HIDs, with half the work to install. Also, the HIDs I bought did not look as nice as I thought they would've. The LEDs are a perfect match with the LED light strip on the headlight.
