Probably the fluid, not the filter. The filter is accessed with the bell-housing removed. The transaxle has to come out of the vehicle for that.

I'm not sure what to go by with these cars...time or mileage. Mine is 8 years old, but only has 49k miles, and I'm pretty sure it's already ticking. I follow the maintenance schedule with regular oil changes, had no choice to change the coolant when the upper hose exploded on the highway, and have been through 3 oil filter housings. The front right strut is blown out, and I'm starting to get random misfire codes every now and then. I heard the Pentastar was a great engine, but I think mine will be limping just to make it to 60k miles.

Not to say they don't have their issues, all manufacturers do, but the Pentastar has been in the 'Top10' best since it was introduced. Maybe every carmaker is guilty of using plastic parts when aluminum would be the better choice, it isn't just Chrysler.
Misfire can be because of a mechanical (valvetrain?) problem, once the fuel & ignition possibilities are ruled out.
