I have a 2015 200 S AWD, 20k miles. There's an annoying rattling noise coming from somewhere in the dash area and I can't figure out exactly what's causing it. It usually starts around 40-45 mph, but not higher than that speed. I hear it when the heat/air is turned on and off. It's more towards the center of the dash, somewhere around the radio or a tad bit lower, and maybe just barely closer towards the passenger side. Has anyone experienced this or know what could be causing it so I can fix it? Thanks in advance.

I have a 2015 200 C AWD with the same annoying noise it drives me nuts. Like underdave said it seems to be coming from the lower passenger side dash area it is a metallic sounding rattle, seems to be worse when it is cold outside. Noise seems to surface when I am driving down the road and accelerate with the vibration of the engine/car that is when I notice it. I brought it into the dealer and of course I had to leave it overnight because it is worse when cold. Dealer had it all day and said that they could not duplicate the problem what a waste of my day. Probably going to get brave and see if I can remove some of the passenger interior pieces to see if I can find the source of the problem. If I figure it out I will post it on here.

Aside from the equally annoying speaker rattles (especially the subwoofer), its the only complaint i have about the car. I'm trying to avoid the dealership too, the same thing always happens to me. I may have to bite the bullet though if i have no luck on my own.

Try the glove box. I put some weather stripping on the inside to seal it shut more. No more rattle. It's a tight fit. Do the same thing around the cabin air filter space near the passenger foot area. That plastic piece come off. Put some weather stripping on that piece and put it back on for a tighter fit.

Ok i finally got an excellent video that clearly shows the sound. However, I'm not very internet savvy at all, so can somebody advise me on how to put it on here?

Get the file on your PC first. After you have it there you will need to hit the reply button in this thread. Then, press the icon that looks like a film reel. That will allow you to select and upload a video.

Well I've tried that and I tried putting it on youtube and posting the link, but apparently I don't have enough posts yet to post a link. Dammit! I'm sorry guys, thanks for sticking with me. I'll get there.

I have a rattling noise around the same area. If I open the sunglass holder, it stops. Might give that a shot to see if that's your problem. As far as fixing it, I'm going to mention to the dealership at the next oil change.

I had that rattling noise in the sunglass holder. I went to the dealership and they put some padding (foam) a some places and the noise is gone si ce then.

Finally, I'm able to get the video on here. You can hear it pretty well especially in the beginning, even above the road noise. And I've tried everyone's suggestions so far and no luck.

My car had a noise not long after I bought it in the climate/transmission panel. They did something to it and it stopped. BUT I still have a rattle in the overhead console, door panels, sunroof and rear speaker cover. All of which have been addressed, but without any resolution. I just got the car back Friday afternoon from having a new overhead console installed to help stop the rattle.

The rattle in the door panels might be caused by the control panels in them. They're just lightly held in by 4 metal tabs. I recommend you wrap the metal tabs and just under the panel's lip in nylon flock tape to deaden the sound. I can send you pictures if you don't know what I'm talking about.

My first thought would be the fan/blower. it is very easy to remove the glove box. I would remove the glove box and drive, since you have to be doing 40 mph and maybe it will give you some indication it is the blower motor. I must say if my thought is correct I do not understand why you have to get up to 40 mph for the fan to rattle.

Now it's no longer limited to just 40mph. Now I hear it at any speed, any outside/inside temperature, no rhyme or reason. It'll go quiet if I get on the gas to get the RPM's up, then it comes back when the RPM's come back to normal. I'm dying here.

If I were you, I'd take it in. Rattles are not only annoying, but hard to narrow down. I'm with you in that I like to avoid the dealership, however the car is still under warranty. It really isn't your problem to have to narrow down. If the dealership wants to play games with you, make it known that you are the customer and an unsatisfied one at that. If they're wise, they'll do whatever they can to keep you, and your rattles, quiet.

I had mine in this past week, they took the headliner off, put some felt strips down and now I don't have anymore rattles. My perception of the car has improved 100% since doing so as well!

There is a rattle in my dash also. It happened after one of those transmission recalls. My transmission failed and a new valve body put in at 18,000 miles. Got it back yesterday and still has that rattle. Dealer said he would probably have to remove dash to find it. He rode in it and heard it. Made an appointment for next week. Wish me luck.
