Rim and tire size

I have the stock 200 s rims on right now which are 18x7 and I am looking at some new rims that are 18x8. The person I got the car from just put new tires on which are 225/50R18. Will 225s fit an 8 inch wide rim? I‘ve found various answers saying it’s too small and some saying it will fit and also something about it affecting the speedometer. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. What year?
According to tire-size.com the wheel width can be between 6" to 8".
Make sure that you have sufficient clearances. The wheel offset should be +35mm.
It is not a recommended tire size.
Your speedometer/odometer may be off (calculate the revs per mile of the stock to 751 revs per mile).
