Read the owners manual section about towing trailers with the vehicle.
I installed a trailer hitch and brake/turn signal wiring on the Caliber (2.0L/CVT).
Loaded trailer weight was about 800 lbs (362 kg).
Drive gently and safely. Brakes, suspension and drivetrain must be in good shape.
The Caliber seemed to do fine for work and travel. I had also loaded up the car for camping. It held more than it looked like it could from the outside. It was like having a baby Durango. 😀
The CVT had fresh fluid and the trans cooler was working OK. The car had less than 40K miles (64K km) on it. The 4-cylinder engines are durable enough.
