OIL LEAK (crack)

Is that crack in the engine block? can anyone tell me what part it's coming from?

I changed the oil at 34,761 miles on 10/16/2018 and it has leaked one quart in 2,500 miles.

I had 2 coolant leaks recently, now this, seriously!

Looks like an engine out job, going to the dealer Monday, which is new year's eve, so I don't even know if they'll be open, the powertrain warranty should take care of it, and I'm glad I got the extended warranty from CarMax. I bought this car with 23K thinking it would be trouble free for at least 5 years, but I was wrong. FYI: they had to replace the fuel pump right after I bought the car, fuel level sensor was bad, I got the car with 3/4 tank, went to fill it up and it was already full, then I drove 200 miles and it got down/stuck to 1/2 (on fuel gauge), then I filled it up again and it only showed 3/4, dealer took care of it, so I was OK with it, but now I'm getting seriously concerned about the reliability of my car.

Yeah that may be the oil cooler housing if is a v6 my was replaced. On that fuel pump, am having the same issue now I only can filled up to 3/4 of a tank after that I can’t get anymore in if I try it come up the filler tube.

Looks like then engine has to come out anyway, right????
Dealer can deal with that crap, I hope they'll give me a loaner.

I just checked the chrysler app and my powertrain warranty expires 9/18/2019, sucks, at this rate I'll need more repairs in the future for sure, that's good I got the extended CarMax warranty, which is good for another 4 years, up to 75K.

I had oil in the same place. Happens frequently on this engine, it's either the oil cooler or oil filter cap that's cracked. Mine was the oil cooler replaced under powertrain warranty.

I dropped off the car this morning at 8am, they said they wouldn't look at it until tomorrow, wow, thanks! If I wanted the car to be looked at Friday, I would have made an appoitment for Friday, not Thursday, and on top of that, no loaner, no free rental, only a discount for Enterprise, $30/day plus I got the insurance for $14 a day, so it's about $46 a day with tax/fees/crap.
I got a Ford Fiesta, I checked everything when I got home, not a drop of windshield washer fluid in there and all the tires were at 20psi, I guess it's too hard for them to check stuff properly.

Doesn't your car insurance cover rentals? Most do, mine does. I would NEVER take the additional insurance from a car rental place, complete ripoff. I imagine people that don't rent often might be talked into the extra insurance by the rental car agent.

If I wreck my own car it's the same deductible no matter what so why insure a rental higher than my own ride?

You didn't pay for additional "gas coverage" did you?

If the tires and washer fluid aren't up to par, take it back, they will either get you a different car or fix it.

I will always take the extra insurance, if anything happens, stolen, totalled..., All I have to do is give them the key, and not deal with that crap through my insurance as if it were my own car.

..and all I have to do is call my insurance and give them they key in any scenario. It's why I have decent car insurance.

Enterprise does do a good job of up-selling people that aren't familiar, they almost "scare" you into taking it. I stop them halfway through their speech and their cute "deductible due immediately" warning.

I have rented cars for 20+ years and never had an issue. To each their own, but you will find most business professionals and people who rent often (not rookies) will not take the extra insurance because it's the oldest con/waste of $$.

Most corporations will not cover the extra insurance for any employee renting a vehicle when traveling, instead they take the companies insurance card - or their own insurance card and be reimbursed by the corporation for the rental and fuel.

Well, if that POS 200 was reliable I wouldn't have to worry about renting a **** car.
My wife's 2012 Kia forte has 75K and never had problems, just the usual pads and battery needing replacing.
My next car might just be electric, done with ICE and transmissions that shift rough..., instant torque, no shifting needed, zero maintenance needed.

Good deal on the Kia, maybe you should trade your POS 200 (your words) and get one for yourself as well and I hope you get a good (reliable) one, although if it were me, the only one I would even consider would be the Stinger - but I still wouldn't.

Be aware Kia (a Chrysler cousin remnants of GEMA) has issues too:

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a...com/news/a15342058/hyundai-and-kia-recall-1-2-million-cars-for-engine-failures/

I do like electric cars, I test drove a Chevy Bolt and really liked it, I almost want one but I have a few issues with it that I can't get over one being it's price for what it is. Yes there absolutely is some maintenance although less than ICE, and there are problems with them just like their ICE counterparts have problems. Besides the worst reliable of them all - Tesla - the same people making the ICE cars make electric ones so...

https://www.greencarreports.com/new...com/news/1116139_2018-nissan-leaf-electric-car-is-there-a-fast-charging-problem

I sincerely hope you get a good car next but, it's always a risk that you get a POS.

I bet you do miss that 200 tho driving around that Fiesta. Maybe? I sure would.

Got it back today, checked everything, the air tube clamp near the TB was loose, took 5 turns to tighten it, and oil that had leaked was still all over, as if it was so hard for the mechanic to wipe everything clean, unless it's fresh oil and the leak was not fixed properly, I could still smell oil throught the air vents on my way home. I cleaned the oil off as much as I could, we'll see tomorrow if fresh oil is there.

Put the car on ramps and ran it for 20 minutes while I wiped off all the spilled oil that was there from when it leaked before, mechanic didn't bother wiping off any oil that was under the car, that's why I was still smelling oil while driving.
Good news is that I didn't see any leakage, all seems good, until next time I guess.

That's good news...good thing your on top of it. Hopefully no more probs and you can just enjoy the car. I wonder if these cars can't handle year round hot weather like you have...because I have the same model and bout the same miles and haven't had any oil or coolant leaks. (Yet) and they do run hot. Too bad Chrysler didn't address its issues and market it more aggressively...this model had potential but now it's up too us too fix and modify too get the best out of it.

My diagnose was way off, I guess the leak was showing there but it was coming from the oil cooler and perhaps going through he intake plenum gasket, leaking on the other side, thing is it looks like a crack in my first picture, so I don't know what's up with that.
I'm glad it wasn't as serious as I first thought, and that the warranty took care of it.

I think I have this same issue now. Leaking anti-freeze though from the oil cooler. Car goes in tomorrow, hoping it all gets covered under the powertrain warranty. I know it is a bad idea but I'm very close to pulling the trigger on a 2018 Giulia TI Sport Q4.

The new Genesis G70 kicks butt too, AWD, Brembo brakes, same engine as the stinger, 0-60 in 4.5 sec, and luxurious at a good price, look into it, I know I wish I could get it.

Alfa Romeos are known for poor reliability, would be going from one unreliable car to another.

Hey, guess what? oil leak is back, smelled oil yesterday when the heat was on, looked in the engine bay, oil is accumulating at the base of the oil filter housing, where the oil cooler is too I think.
I can't take a picture today, phone died, will take a picture tomorrow, already made an appointment with the dealership for Tuesday February 26.
Oil cooler or oil filter housing must be cracked, we'll see.

Are you seriously surprised? Other members here have had this happen more than once. This is a common issue - one big nasty booger that they have not yet addressed with the 3.6 since 2011.

Mine is back too - or it smells like it. I haven't had time to take it in yet. They need to make a new revision for this part, maybe one not made of mostly plastic.

The part is $150-$200 depending on where you get it in case anyone is wondering that is out of powertrain warranty.

Part number is: 68105583AF

Cost to have it done @ a dealer I am sure is $800-$1200 US.

Shouldn't I be, it got fixed a month ago, January 04, 2019.
either they did it wrong or the cooler is cracked.

and I got your PM with your warning about insulting other, did I call you names or anything?

You said I didn't read you post thoroughly but neither did you or you would have said something else besides am I surprised, should that part leak every month in order to not be surprised anymore?

Surprised, WTF, it just got fixed, now it's leaking again, stop acting like this engine and trans are Ok, is it too much to ask for to have a trouble free car, especially since it has less than 40k on it, **** cars I had in the 90's were more reliable than this crap.

Crappy design, which I'm sure you will defend, as usual, they couldn't have put the filter and cooler on the underside of the car like everybody else, had to be special, just like that engine to pipe hose and those coolant hoses with C-clips instead of clamps, bunch of geniuses at chrysler.

Read my entire post before you accuse me or anyone of "acting" like something. Did you even notice I posted my car had the same problem again AS WELL RIGHT NOW?!

I didn't "act" like anything was OK. All I asked is are you seriously surprised since this is a common PROBLEM since 2011? I've showed you the previous threads on this problem that Chrysler has not addressed.

Don't direct your hostility towards me or any other members here anymore. This isn't by far the first time you have done this.

I fixed your mis-quote. As you can see I did say more than what you stated that I did.

In answer to your question regarding the required PM about your infraction, you can insult someone without actually calling them names, you can insult them by mis-quotation like you did just now, you can make false accusations about someone's intent and general character - many ways to insult other members. I apologize that this wasn't clear to you. I will point out where you have done this before if you'd like, although I am not sure how it isn't clear because once you did have the decency to apologize to a new poster regarding your insult to them.

Rant about your car all you want, but don't talk lowly to or about people here. Also, don't try and bait people into arguments by personal attacks.

I am going to lock this thread, it has gone off topic and is becoming argumentative, I don't think anything else can be learned about this very common issue regarding the oil cooler on 3.6 Pentastar, although I have to say I have owned 3 200's with the 3.6, this 2015 is the ONLY one I have had this issue with.

It seems the problem could be an issue with FCA's procedure of replacing it maybe more so than the part being poorly designed (otherwise they would ALL fail) - maybe the torque on the bolts are too tight or something like that etc... It seems everyone that has had this problem, it failed again not soon after - maybe not within a month but "soon" after the repair.
