Your post is dated 6/19 and that is the date I had this recall taken care of at the dealer. Software update and left the car in the morning and picked it up later that afternoon. Got the recall letter a few days later in the mail.

 

I have not taken my 200 in yet but it sounds like a software update is all they are doing. We took the wifes Cherokee in for an oil change and asked about the recall and the service adviser told us there was no recall, the news only says things like that for ratings. Then a few weeks later we got the letter in the mail.

 

I would sooo be in their face. (dealer)

 

I did this regulatory crap in medical device manufacturing. It's just a hypothetical software failure mode found while auditing FMEAs. If the CAN signal gets interrupted at the same moment the cruise control brain sends an "accelerate" command the PCM could get locked in that behavior... accelerating... That is until the driver sent a Cruise Control override command by doing literally anything anyone with a brain would do. Tap the brake, cancel cruise, shift to neutral, etc. Nobody in the real world ever actually experienced and reported the above failure mode.

The whole emergency recall campaign is a big waste of time/money to make sure they reduce liability in case it ever DOES happen and someone sends in the NHTSA to fleece and crucify the entire company. In reality it could have been mitigated easily with a quiet PCM flash on a TSB. But ya know... lawyers.

TLDR: So chill out you're not gonna die.

 

Yep. Stealership told me the same thing... no recall showing for my VIN. Maybe I'll get the letter, but maybe I won't. I don't use cruise anyway, so no biggie.

 

I stopped at the dealer and was told that the recall wasn't for every 200, but for specific years, options, etc. He looked up my vin and it wasn't one that needed any work done for the cruise control issue.

 

First I'd heard this. I just had mine done today.

2015C as well, though it does have adaptive cruise control, but again I hadn't read anywhere that the recall only applied in that case. And the number of vehicles being recalled (4.8 - 5.3 million) would seem to belie that theory.

I did not receive any information on the recall. But I don't have adaptive cruise. The Chrysler's owners site does not show a recall for my 200. I started texting with the Chrysler reps and they told me there is no recall for the 200. Told me that the news was incorrect. Yet some of you have had the recall done, so this is confusing when Chrysler says one thing, the news says another and yet some of you confirm the cars are being fixed.

 

Agree. Hard to see why there should be this confusion.

My work order states:

U59 Safety Recall U59 - Reprogram Powertrain Control Module
U59 - 2014-2018 UF CAN BUS (Recall CSN 1)
Inspect and Reprogram PCM Only With New Software
18-U5-91-82 - 0.2hrs

I suppose if the "new software" had already been programmed previously, then the recall would be unneeded. However, AFAIK I had previously been up to date with PCM versions. My last previous PCM update was in November 2016 as part of the S55 transaxle wire harness recall. Have any you not receiving a recall notice, or being told you VIN is unaffected, had PCM flash updates performed within the last 18 months or so?

 

According to this NHTSA document, the FCA U59 / NHTSA 18V-332 safety recall includes Chrysler 200 MY15 - MY17, production start 08/21/13 through production end 10/26/16. So not clear why dealers and owners site would be telling some you that your 200 is not affected.

You can double check your VIN for recalls at https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls.

 

I checked my vin and it's not showing as a recall. Interesting thing though, the Darts are not part of this recall. I don't think they have the adaptive cruise control. So I'm betting this issue is really related to the vehicles with adaptive cruise.

Just not seeing this info in any documentation online.

 

...and not consistent with the ~5 million vehicles reported by media to be affected.

Oh well. Not really very much of a safety issue anyway, but from a PR and customer relations perspective it seems FCA could have done better making whatever the actual facts are clear.

I just found out about the very bad and very publicized recall on Tacoma's breaking in half and couldn't stop laughing at the pictures of them on the web and then thought about how not serious this recall is in comparison. I guess now there's a recall for leaf springs breaking on the same truck LOL!! I actually wanted a Taco truck - I think i'll pass. It may run forever but... well I guess it makes a for nice generator if the frame is broken in half.

Toyota does well with their cars, but appears to be at a loss on fixing their truck issues. I did read that Toyota's were considered the worst in the segment when it comes to pickups.
